Mayor Micheal Coleman of Columbus is getting ready for the annul state of the city address on Wednesday and his main focus will be ending gun violence. According to record in 2009 there were 83 homicides in the city of Columbus and last year the number went up to 105. 70+% of Columbus's homicides are commited with the use of illegal guns. Already in 2011 there have been 9 homicides, one happening to a 15 year old boy who was shot in the head fatally by in his brother at Easton. Coleman is trying to figure out where all the children and immuture people are getting these illegal guns from, Coleman states that gun shows could be some of the cause. He says that all gun vendors should do background checks on ALL of their customers. Records show that most of the people guns are sold to would not pass a background check. Coleman asks that background checks are done on all customers but states that his hands are tied when it comes to deveolping new, stricter laws. Coleman does say that anyone who can pass a background check should be allowed to own a gun..
I think that there should be strict guidelines to those who own guns. I don't think that people should just be allowed to buy a gun, they should have to past test proving they know saftey of the gun, etc.
